[DF 2012] Group 1: Rhythm

Group 1     Rhythm


Concept

本組藉由對Polymorphic案例與仿生獸的觀察與分析,
發展出一種可變形的機構,並將機構利用在
燈具的設計中,使變形與照明效果產生連結。

We observed two cases.
One is Polymorphic and another is Theojansen.
Then we followed some of their mechanisms and used them to develop our design.
Our goal is to create a transformed construction.
After we decided our goal, we tried to make a connection between transformation and light.
Finally, we got a light tool which can be transformed by hands.

Concept
At the very beginning, we just have an idea of accomplishment of a curved surface in our real space. With the curved surface, we try to create the space, making people feel the “undefined” universal space, while the lights come through form above. It’s a scenario of the spectators look up at the staring night.

Making the patterns with holes for lighting
Take the Galaxy as the beginning, we drew a virtual line as the basis and let the holes followed the basis. When the holes got closer to the line, they became bigger.


Fabrication Process

Materials 

To surface conversion flat surface divided into two triangular plane, in experimental models using cardboard found to need more toughness of the material in the actual assembly, So finally we decide to choice PP.

Ways of connecting and joining

To connect the quadrilaterals, instead of using glued, we use tenon joints, and we studied many different types of the joints. The first time we practice and applied the joints to every edges, we failed in the end. The problems come from not only from its self, but also from the weight of the whole objects. Problems result from the scale and the material of the joints. Therefore, the second version practice, we change the shape of the joints, and its material we use acrylic instead of paper.

According to experience assembling of experimental model , we found that the flexibility of material would make the latch slide off the hole .So we changed the shape of latch , bigger head part would stuck once the latch was insert to the hole.

First of all , The form of the vine (plants) growing type is which we try to imitate,
We Attempt to develop a kind of the varied-unit (pattern ) to simulate the shape of the vine.

Concept

     
        以燈源作為視覺拉扯的中心,將板片進行二維的形變,其圍塑出的六角柱空間也隨之轉變,
將光的線性轉換成銀色版片的實體,試圖將光的方向實現形成光的雕塑。




[DF 2012] Group 9:Poseidon fork 海神叉

研究分析:多星點形體是複雜的單元幾何。
其中以同一個中心點,生長出四個方向的軸線,進而研究幾何形體披覆術。
由拆解的單一面來看,都是由中心的三向幾何形銜接三叉管所構成。

構成:由研究得知,以往經驗三角化為最有效之披覆術,但於四叉形體並無完全統一單元之趨勢,因此設計重點在於不更變幾何形體之特定組構機制下,發展具有量產潛能的特殊單一版片,我們嘗試挑戰同樣的版片去建構一個四叉單元。
這些四叉單元經巧妙的計算得以以卡榫與其他單元相接,構成不同樣式的客製化形體。

客製化的自由形體猶如不同種類的珊瑚。我們稱她Coral-fly,猶如我們的仿生理念,再自由的形體依然是建立在系統機制操控的原則上。


Research and analysis: Star body is a complex geometry of the unit. Grow out of the four direction of the axis of which with a central point to study the geometry draping technique.

製作過程:首先製作大量三叉型狀(平面)的板片(珍珠板),以6~10個小片為一組,

把小片組織完成後,再用一組與一組去拼湊出不規則形,利用針去連接各組,並且支撐。
Production process: First, make a lot of trigeminal shape (flat) plate (pearl board), a group of 6 to 10 small pieces,
Small piece of tissue is complete, and then a group with a group of irregular in shape, to piece together the use of needles to connect to each group, and support.
此次的模型修正為完整能夠吊掛的燈具,和上次編織不同的是,
這次以"面"去構築模型,以能夠與Grasshopper結合的目標去改變構築方式。
